Chapter 10: I Came Up With A Most Complicated Plan

“My premise is fairly simple, sir,” I told Commandant Suvorov respectfully.

We stood in a secure briefing room at the Institute. I had been able to convince Dekkas Richardson and Kiyu, which in turn had led to this meeting.

I brought up a holographic projection of the House Mantis Spire. “House Mantis has repeatedly violated the peace here on Drakkus, including the recent events with House Pyros.” From what I had heard, the other pirate House’s losses had been so complete that they had effectively ceased to exist.

Certainly, we had seen further attacks from House Mantis and other Pirate Houses on the House Pyros Spire, culminating in sections of it being set afire and smoke rising from the structure for the past several weeks. Reports I had seen suggested that equipment, weapons, ships, and even bodies were set aflame with incendiary charges. I did not want to think of how hot the fires must be burning inside the huge building for the metal of the spire and ships inside to ignite.

“What I propose as a final assessment for my project with the civets is a retaliatory raid against House Mantis. They have stolen artifacts from House Drakkan, I propose stealing them back, using the civets to lead the infiltration and open the way for Initiate Drakkan’s team to retrieve stolen property.”

“This would be the culmination of my project as well, Commandant,” Princess Kiyu told him.

Commandant Suvorov looked between us and then at the holographic projection of the House Mantis Spire. “There is severe risk here, I do not think that I need to explain that. However, if your plan has merits, the benefit may outweigh those risks. Dekkas Richardson thinks your plan has potential, so you may proceed with your briefing.”

“Sir,” I highlighted an area on the projection, “We believe that House Mantis has a vault located here, where they store the stolen items. Using remote mapping, we have identified a shortest route through this area,” I highlighted a section of large chambers, “and the best access point as being this skimmer bay, here, adjacent to their ship hangar.”

“Their hangar will be heavily secured and guarded,” Suvorov stated.

“It will, sir, as will their skimmer bay,” I nodded, “this will tie directly into the evaluation of the civets, if they can infiltrate that area and allow our team to pass, then I think we will have proven their usefulness.”

“How do you plan to accomplish this?” Suvorov arched an eyebrow.

“I want to seize one of their Hunter skimmers,” I spoke confidently, as if this were a minor thing to accomplish instead of dangerous and risky in and of itself. “They often patrol the Barrens individually. If the civets can get aboard, they can disable the crew. Our teams will don replica Hunter armor,” I gestured at Princess Kiyu and I, “the civets will then move into place at the Spire. They will infiltrate the Spire, open the skimmer bay for us, and recon the route to the vault.
